Members Networking  Meeting with Speaker Stella Parkes - Mayor of Stroud

Stella will talk about what is happening at the town council, the Levelling Up Fund bid to improve the town centre and why it is important for women, especially younger women, to get their voices heard by becoming a councillor representing any party.

Born and bred in Stroud Stella recently took up the post of town mayor.  Her background is in journalism, public relations and corporate communications although she originally trained as a careers advisor. She has held a variety of jobs having spent time in self employment as a public relations consultant as well as being employed by local councils and various charities. She has also done some teaching and run a local charity shop.

Since returning  to Stroud in the mid 1980s she has been actively involved with local pressure groups including the Slad Valley Action Group (SVAG) and Stroud Against Supermarket Saturation (SASS) and has been supporting Stroud Valleys Project, where she is chair of trustees, for more than 30 years.
