SBN Zoom Online Meeting with speaker Julie Wickham - Stroud Valleys Project

Stroud Valleys Project is a local environmental charity founded in 1988. Julie has two roles within the organisation, as a Navigator Developer with the GEM Project and as Marketing and Fundraising Manager. Julie will tell you about what the charity is up to at the moment, how they are coping during lockdown (with the eco shop closed) and about the charity’s particular fundraising challenges during a pandemic.

Stroud Valleys Project is currently working on a variety of projects that look at the environment and help to build habitat for wildlife but are also very careful and nurturing of local people, too. These include the Wild Shed Project and local tree planting schemes which Julie will give you more details about.

The charity is one of 26 charities involved in the GEM Project, which stands for Going The Extra Mile. The project helps people overcome challenges to employment and move them closer towards work, self-employment, education or training. Anyone who has been out of work for 6 months or more can join the project and have 1:1 support to help them on their journey. Julie is recruiting participants at the moment, but the GEM Project often needs placements and she hopes to explore this with us.
